Choosing Health Means Choosing Homemade: Sugar Cookie Recipe

You might be surprised to see a sugar cookie recipe on a health website.  My philosophy is that we all eat treats (in moderation) and that the healthiest treats are homemade ones made from REAL ingredients. Read the ingredient label on a box of store bought cookies and there are probably many words that you cannot pronounce and have no idea what they are.  If you are going to have sweets make them with REAL BUTTER, real ingredients.  And ENJOY!!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened (1 cup)
  • 1 organic egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 cups unbleached, organic, all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp organic baking powder

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cream the sugar and butter together in a stand mixer.
  3. Add egg and vanilla and beat until thoroughly mixed and creamy.
  4. Combine flour and baking powder and then add this dry mixture to mixer with butter cream slowly until you have a smooth ball of dough.
  5. Roll out and cut into thick cookies using a cookie cutter or drinking class (my mom’s old trick)
  6. Bake on parchment paper for approx. 10 minutes.
  7. Decorate as you wish!
  8. Enjoy!
